INDOEX and France Trip. Feb99 to Apr99
Group Members That Went
These are some pictures I took on my last big trip. I left on Feb 7,
1999 for Capetown, South Africa. I went there to meet the
NOAA ship R/V Ron Brown
and replace Ken Voss, who was onboard for the ship's Atlantic
crossing from Norfolk, VA. Ken left for home and I was to join the
ship's scientific crew. However, I was sick in Capetown and had to remain
behind while the ship sailed on to the island of Mauritius in the
Southern Indian Ocean. After a week in Capetown, I was well enough to
fly to Mauritius and it was there that I officially got onboard the Ron
Brown. We sailed out of Mauritius and up to the Maldives islands. We
were participating in the Indian Ocean Experiment (
INDOEX) Intensive
Field Phase 99. I was onboard the Ron Brown operating the lidar system,
some sunphotometers, and our lab's inwater RADS instrument. Our INDOEX
travels took us to Male, Maldives (and some other islands for R&R). We
sailed all over the Indian Ocean, from far South (Mauritius), to way
North (Bay of Bengal, off Bombay). We were onboard the Ron Brown during
INDOEX from about Feb 20 to April 2, 1999. After INDOEX, I went to
France for a couple weeks to attend an
ACE-2 meeting in Toulouse, and to
see some old friends. I was in France until about April 18, when I
finally returned home to Miami. The following pages have some of the
pictures that I took during all this travel.
I've tried to arrange them according to
segments of the trip that fit together. Feel free to browse through
them. I occasionally add some commentary for the pictures.
